One of the most important
elements to create a real Christmas atmosphere is definitely a fireplace! A warm spot that gives every moment a magic
glitter.
The meaning of fireplace plays a very important
role in the Christmas tradition; in the peasant world the preparations started
months before, when the head of each family
looked for a special stump in the woods. The stump was from an olive
tree, from an oak or from a chestnut tree
-depending on the latitudes- and they made it dry in an arid
shelter.
On December 24th it
was placed in the fireplace where it would be lit and let burn for a very long time, the ashes would be later scattered in
the fields as a propitiatory sign of a
good harvest.
If you want to investigate about the history of the fireplace,
you can start a million years ago, when fire was discovered, therefore you
could say it's the most ancient piece of furniture in the history fo mankind!
You are always in time to
insert a fireplace in your house, and you can choose every kind of style
and shape!
The first form of fireplace is the hearth in the middle of the main room; do
you think it's old fashioned?
Absolutely modern ! Have a look at the ones designed
by “Focus”
If your house isn't provided with a flue, you can insert a beautiful central
fireplace anyway!

But if minimalism is not for you, you can go wild with
decors and very important decorations!

Or in hand worked marble
Or do you feel futuristic? Then you need a sinuously shaped
fireplace
For someone sensitive to cold as I am, the ideal is a
portable fireplace, that you can move to every room!
Now that we have created the right Christmas
atmosphere, we have to prepare the
interior decor: obviously in my next post!
Stay tuned!
